Distress tourism
The two ladies, Katrina and Rita, are setting world oil prices on fire, and causing anxiety attacks down the line. But Indian babus and policymakers, known for their ingenuity, have managed to smell opportunity even there. Of course, it's all personal. The buzzword among petroleum ministry bureaucrats in these days of 'energy security' is petro-tourism. Search for secure sources of energy and oil diplomacy constitute the pretext for most of our oilmin babus to engineer junkets to oil-rich nations. That most of these countries, in central and west Asia, are exotic tourism locales, is probably a pure and harmless coincidence. They should try and tell that to the taxpayer, though!
Beyond the security gulf
Fly to Dubai, seems to be Priyanka Vadra's favourite phrase. She has been a visitor to the Gulf emirate several times this year. She was in Dubai for a few days, beginning September 17. According to reports published in Dubai newspapers, Priyanka loves Dubai and this is the most-sought-after holiday destination for the family. The choice, though, has not exactly been determined by the usual touristy considerations: luxury, landscape, and things like that you know. Third Eye has been told that Vadras have chosen Dubai because Indian security agencies believe it's the safest holiday destination. Compared to other Gulf nations, which keep hitting the headlines because they keep getting hit, this one sure is safe.
Even the law has a heart
Escorts chairman Rajan Nanda and his younger sibling Anil are fighting on whether or not the Escorts heart institute should be sold. Anil says it's a charitable institution and can't be put on the block. He's planning to sue his brother. But none of the established lawyers, who spend as much time at p3ps as in courts, are willing to take the case. The reason: executive director Dr Naresh Trehan. In matters of the heart, Trehan's services are always needed and the 45-plus lawyer lobby cannot afford to rub him the wrong way.
